Giving Thanks

To those of you living in or from the US:

Happy Thanksgiving!!

We all have different things to give thanks for, and the way we do our thank yous often variate :o) The welcome home card I usually leave for the owners when house/appartment sitting is my part of saying thank you: I got a sort of mini-break from home and I was temporarily an animal "owner" again.

Most of the times the owners give me a little something from their travels, that they figure I would like (they are usualy never wrong), just look at this one - Is it not cute??

Looking forward to cat-sit again in a few weeks from now :o)

Who Can Resist....

this adorable face??!!

She has totally won my heart and keeps me company while I sleep, so gentle and always purring. She is quite the hunter, and she has already presented lots of pray: mice, and never gets upset, if I will not let her into the house with her "snacks".

Moments like these are some of the reasons why I agree to look after friends' and colleagues cats - reminding me why I loved to own cats (not allowed to keep cats in my building)

Different Sounds

Ever tried to be alone in new surroundings, where you have to get used to the noises, that that particular place plus surroundings make? Or perhaps the lack of noises if you usually lives in a place with much trafic, neighbours etc.?

If I have travelled far to get to a new place, I usually just pass out as soon as my head hits the pillow. But this place is not far away (though still a little distance from my apartment) so my mind is more alert to new noises - not that I feel insecure, but the subconsience needs to get familiar with the surroundings.

Did I mention that I have company while sleeping at this place? I am catsitting again and this cute little creature has seen it as it's mission to snuggle at night.

Went To A Crafts Fair And Came Home With A Cat

Okay what just happened? I am not allowed to have a cat in my building and I am away far to often from my appartment to even properly taken care of a small animal ??!!

I challenged the rain and went to the annual Crafts Fair - happy to see that a lot of people had chosen to defeat the rain just like me - large variety of different crafts at 123 stalls and I purchased 2 items - one I will show you another day, because I need to buy something for it's purpose.

Look at these wonderful stoneware frogs - I took the picture with the designer's permission (the designer does not have a homepage to show more of these) as I am going to show this to a friend who is absolutely crazy about frogs, and she already have two stoneware animals in her garden, so this will be very tempting for her. Wished I had a garden, where I could place one of these - and they sadly won't fit into my little appartment. The designer is Ragnhild Dalsgaard Pedersen and love the way she displayed her wonderful frogs at the fair.

Ohh I mentioned a cat, didn't I? Ok ladies, meet Miss Kitty :o)

The Danish word "mis" translates to pussycat, so with that adorable face she easily inspired the name Miss Kitty - and see, she has already conquered her place on my couch. She is soft, always seems happy and can help keep one warm :o) I could not resist that little lady when I saw her at Signe Emdal's stall.

The Temporary Home City

This is where I am currently staying, when looking after the cats - Frederiksberg. Some might argue, that it is just a part of Copenhagen, but in reality it is one of the boroughs in Greater Copenhagen area. It is a little bit more expensive to live here, and if I could get my hands on an affordable appartment, I would seriously consider moving here.

They have a lot of small shops, that people from most of Copenhagen goes to, as they (besides nice things) also offers the best customer service and a sense of being welcome. They have time for their customers, which makes the customers want to return again.

Frederiksberg is also considered to be one of the country's green cities, as recycling is high on the agenda. Eg this appartment building has the following trash containers: 2 for domestic garbage, 1 for cardboard, 1 for aluminia, 1 for glass,  1 for paper and finally 1 for hard plastic. They found out, that they could reduce the size of the domestic garbage containers, as a lot could be put in some of the other containers - and it does involve that the garbage men comes by more frequently. It remains the original number of emptying the containers, just spread out on various items.

Last weekend, they had Frederiksberg Days, where lots of things was happing in the area combined with a night run (the route usually takes you through the lobby of one of the hotels = hotels guests in the bar are dropping jaws at this sight :o) ), markets etc. This years offical poster was made by the local Ole Lindholm, and I can not help thinking about the 60s when seing a poster like this, or something mendi (henna hand painting) inspired - a poster that makes you happy just by looking at it.

Words of Inspiration

The cat was created when the lion sneezed.

Can / Should I Add That To My CV??.... :o)

Cat-sitter.... I mean, somebody is actually putting babysitter and/or dogwalker into their CVs just to show, that they have not been "on the idle side".

Well - I am once again a cat-sitter. A good friend of mine is on vacation and she owns two cats (with personalities!!!), that are not quite suitable to be put into a holiday-care-kennel - both of them are easily stressed and will get sick instantly if away from both their owner and their usual territory.

Me... I am not allowed to have a cat in my appartment (building rules) and with my ever changing travel itiniary, I wouldn't be a proper cat owner. Since I have had cats from childhood until the day I moved into my current appartment (yes we were allowed to keep cats at my dorm while studying) I really miss having a cat in my presence.

My "job description" - well I basically move into my friend's appartment, while she's away making it my temporary home and spoil her cats rotten :o) Her appartment is not far from mine, so the change of route to work is no problem.... and I get to be "cat owner" for a short while.
