This is what it looks like when you gather knitting people to knitting cinema - light not dimmed as usual, as you like to be able to see your knitting - people knitting while watching the big screen - the screening was part of the North Atlantic House's (cultural center) filmfestival North Atlantic Film Days. The event was sold out, so have suggested that they show it a couple of times more, as more yarn lovers would like to see it. One of the festival organizers just had to take a photo - prior to the screening he had been doubtful about the concept, but afterward he was convinced (cinemas across the country organizes monthly knitting cinema events with new movies).

Fiber Poems - Clouds

Fiber Poems is the first to create an artwork at Smukification with knitting - and it's knit with yarn made of recycled clothes. She is a lady full of cool creative fiber ideas and can not wait to see what her next project might be.

A circle Metro line is currently under construction in Copenhagen, so a lot of places a green fence is surrounding the sites where stations etc. will be, when they finish this big task.

But why settle with a big green fence? Why not make it a "canvas" for a lot of artists? That is exactly what they did this weekend in the Copenhagen borough, Vesterbro - below is just a few of the artworks - there were many many more.

Yarn Bomb Pieces

Some yarn bombers I know are going to decorate a tree in Nordic knitting style - can not be there for the actual yarn bombing, but have sent 2 pieces of knit - let's see I they can use it at all.

The knit with the stars have given me a partial idea for a thick knitted sweater - let's see if I can pull it off and make my own pattern based on the inspiration. The star pattern is from a pattern, where the actual star is being embroidered on the knit - whereas I knitted the star fair isle style - still room for improvement doing that. As I see it, it was worth knitting this even though it might not be used in the yarn bomb as I got an idea for my own personal cozy-thick-warm-stay-at-home-sweater for cold winters.

Star pattern is from a knitting pattern by Stine Hoelgaard Johansen (my instructor on a night school knitting course a few years ago) in the supplement NORDISK STRIK from the danish magazine HENDES VERDEN 40/2013.

Knitting in the City

Hard to believe that my mind can actually contain thoughts other than work or a saffron colored sailboat - really I should be concentrating about those two, but I have decided not to let everything else go on a complete standby and thereby stressing my calender a little bit...

Today I returned to a event organized by the same ladies that held the first public yarn bomb I have participated in last year - not as many participants as last year but still a good time with familiar faces and inspiring work. We put color and things you can sit/rest on :)

 

 

 

 

Happy to see that my red PacMan inspired ghost from last year is still alive - though colors are a bit faded - yellow ghost partly there but not as nice looking as Mr red.

Must admit that my thoughts were not all shut off when it comes to boats, as the event was held right next to the inner city harbor which to to really nice summer weather was very busy with leisure boats - caught myself daydreaming once or twice about the upcoming trip.

Yarnbombed

I am tired and looking back on a long weekend with yarn bombing and a lot of inspiring knitters - I feel like knitting something crazy, but at the same time my mind is simply overloaded with impressions.

Something bright and yellow now catches the attention on passers-by on a Copenhagen street :o)

What do I eye up in that window - it seems familiar

OK, they had challenged me to do something about that window, that had a mesh in front of the glass .... there was however a big "but...." It was high up and that mesh required a curved needled, that I have never tried using before. Question: How do I create the image without climbing the ladder and using the required needle? 

Since the event was about creating something from knitted patches it became obvious to me, that each embroidered stitch should be replaced by a mini knittet patch. Result: 112 patches, that need to be sewn together.

So here he is, looking a little lonely up there, but able to eye the other colorful creations from his spot.

Boring dumpster shed in front of the local library with what a passers-by called "a sweater" )the colors had immediately caught her attention). The piece to the left was installed yesterday, and today it was secured with some extra wires as a remark on the internet said "I need a nice baby rug"......

Happy face piece created by Fiber Poems - the creator actually had a bigger smile than her piece of work at the end of the day. She had been one of the organizers behind this yarn bombing event. The local community has said that it will remain until September 1st, unless it gets vandalized or stolen..... until then people can enjoy the sighs of these colorful works.

Yarn Bombing a Library

Imagine my surprise when I saw two photos of the yarn bombed dust/garbage bin, that I decorated last year on International Yarn Bomb Day, on the internet last week. There is going to be a 48hour event here in Copenhagen in end of April, where the front of a local library will be yarn bombed, so my yellow PacMan ghost is on their facebook page and the photo is included in a mini-exhibit at the library as an eye opener for the upcoming event. The final result of the event should be visible for people to see when passing the library until September 1st.

The organizer's challenged me, so I am going to participate in the event - it has already stolen some time as the embroidery needle and knitting needles have already attached the yarn stash in my apartment. Head immediately popped with ideas, so this is going to be lots of fun

A Dark and Stormy Knit

In the middle of the night, somebody decorates all the parking meters on Plum Harbour's Main Street with knitted cat covers - a yarn bombing attack where the Knit Kats becomes prime suspects. But who are the Knit Kats?

A body is found wrapped in stiched - yarn covered - and everything points in the direction of the Knit Kats. Everything gets a lot closer to the Black Sheep knitters, as Phoebe, Maggie's assistant, is identified as a Knit Kat and suddenly becomes one of the police's suspects.

"....you could be charged with interfering with the investigation" ..... ."And defacing public property...and littering"

Defacing public property and littering??!! Seriously? That type of "grafiti" is so harmles, as knitting will hardly ruin anything it is attached to - if wet it will often get misshaped so it looses it's purpose, and you can easily cut it off with scissors without the property it is attached to getting damaged... What it will most likely do is create smiles on people's faces when they discover that a known thing(property) is suddenly covered with colorful yarn that is easily removed again.

I have only participated in yarn bombing once - not cloak and dagger - but a public event, where we were encouraged to decorate an area of Copenhagen, and I remember all the smiles on walking passers-by when they saw our work. I have also encountered random yarn bombing while walking the streets of Copenhagen and none of these were ruining the object they were attached to. So vandalism??!!

Happy.... Threading the Needle Day

 

 

Today is Threading the Needle Day - and yes, could not resist embroidery with the two PacMan ghosts. The PacMan theme has stuck with me since the yarn bombing event last month, where I actually ended up being quoted in a newspaper the following day.

 

 

This card went to Tracy as part of the the Holiday's in July Card Swap over at Paper Craft Planet - July - do not know if she has actually received yet (dropped in the post last week), but she is not a follower of this blog, which is why I dare showing it. Hope she likes it :o)

Patches for Læsø

Læsø is a small Danish islands where a group of women have decided to yarn bomb - but they needed help so they launched a campaign "A Patch for Læsø" (Danish: En lap for Læsø) so they can make a lot of tourists and locals smile when they spot the new colors added.

Since I had much fun last Sunday, I wanted to contribute and found some unfinished crochet/knitting projects, that are now enrote with regular post to the yarnbombing ladies :o)

 

International Yarn Bombing Day

Today was International Yarn Bombing Day - at the same time also World Wide Knit in Public Day in Denmark - so the culture house Nordatlantens Brygge hosted a workshop with Gitte Skovmand and Eva Holm as organizers.

Meet the camping wagon, Bente fra Kommunen - the yarn bombed cover was a huge inspiration to all of us - Gitte and Eva bring it with them to their workshops - the cover is one big piece, that they can easily remove while driving on the road as it is fragile to wear and tear plus the weather.

While most of them knitted and crocheted away, I eyed a nearby garbage bin - they did tell us to "attack" what was just ouside the culture house. My inspiration came from a photo I have seen on pinterest, and had actually thought of doing some knitting/crochet patches with the Pac Man ghosts, but when I eyed the carbage bin, I immediately saw the pattern in the bin as potential embroidery "fabric" - and none of the others had decided to do something there. I did the embroidery on Mrs Ghost, and Nanna did the skirt.

Amongst all the knit and crochet, Mrs. Ghost needed company - hence introducing Mr. Ghost.

Arigumi is popular - just look at this cat after the mouse creation, that one of the other ladies created :o)

 

I think I was the youngest participant at this event - and the oldest was in her 70s - we all had fun creating the street art in a place were we were allowed to do it. Others regard this as vandalism, but onlike (spray)painted or glued items, this type of street art does not vandalise the item it is attached to, as it merely takes a pair of scissors to remove it. A lot of people on Sunday walks/ tourists passed us, while we were making it - generating a lot of smiles and snap photos shot :o)

Where did June wander off to? It is already July. Did not have my SONY camera with me yesterday, but did remember that my mobile is equipped with a camera.
