Bring Your Grill Out!

Ok - if I shouted this out locally, people would give me a strange stare, because it is raining outside. *SIGH* not the time for a barbeque or a picnic, so the red/white gingham table cloth have to stay a while longer in the drawer.

Saw this inspirational photo from Just Us Girls' latest challenge and remembered havin read about the Bring Your Grill Out! bloghop on both Rosemary's blog but also over on Opus Gluei's blog.

Association: red - gingham - barbeque - fun - 4th of July - earth tones - card..... wonderful when the mind starts working with creative ideas again.... especially now, when I have some time off work.

Image is a digi stamp from Bugaboo, sentiment is made on my computer, all the design paper are from a Mat Stacks (Die Cut With a View) and image coloured with COPICs.

Everywhere I Go......

I see THE face of Halloween: Pumpkin Jack. Everytime I see one, my mind is humming some of the songs from "The Nightmare Before Christmas".

JUGS gave us some requirements in their 106th challenge: use the colors: black, orange, green and purple.

Thought it to be a perfect chance to use to Halloween'ish digis from Beccys Place.

Where's the green? You might ask. Well look at the stems of the pumpkins :o) Pumpkin design paper is Halloween from Panduro Hobby, stribed paper was a wrap on some double adhesive tape, maple leafs are from a craft store in Hamburg and the little Pumpkin Jack is actually from a cheap set of earrings from Søstrene Grene(when I purchased them, I had already eyed the possibility of altering their purpose).

Sew Sew Many Memories

Picture this: you are sitting in a bus and suddenly one of your co-passengers starts giggling - you are a bit baffled due to this sudden outburst, because she is sitting alone and not even reading a book etc. Maybe you guessed already, but that was me giggling on my way home from work. I just got an idea for a card, that will generate a big smile at the receiver's face next month.

I had seen Just Us Girls Challenge #95: Use fabric on your project, but dismissed it, because using the quilted heart from Beccy's place would not qualify as being fabric......... I had found some old fabric, but still had not been able to get any useful ideas.

My mother used to be very crafty - sewed a lot of patchwork, and she has an education as a dress designer/seamstress from the late 1950s, so she can really sew. Me... Well in 4th and 5th grade we had lessons in sewing, knitting etc. and I was not good at it - if fact just by looking at something I created and it would fall apart. No patience to do anything and cut to many corners.

What made me laugh was the idea to make the card look like that little piece of practice-fabric, where you were to show your teacher, that you could use the sewing machine, sew on buttons etc. and it had to have that uneven touch from when I did one of those practice-fabrics at school :o)

So this is what I came up with, when I got back home - the heart is sewn on nicely, and then I remembered adding this lazy-cutting-corners-look when I added the tillykke-sentiment (translates to: happy birthday) and sewing the fabric-background onto a even-edged piece of cardboard and making it look sloppy :o)

She is crazy about flowers, so added this detail made of 2 fabric flowers and one die cut flower attached with a white brad.

Added some button looking brads from Michael's as a sewing-style detail.

In case you are wondering: I actually have my mother's word, that my sewing skills these days are quite good - which is why I know that this card will make her smile big :o)
