Winter Scenery

Happy New Year 2017

Hope you have had a good start to 2017

We have only seen a few snow flakes this winter so enjoying this winter scenery on a local hotel's windows facing the street. Some would call it a Christmas theme, but is it not a winter scene?

I enjoy walking past these windows at night time, as they always put a smile on my face - it is not just a stensil used but an artist that have created a unique work with a limited life span. Makes my mind wander back to the time where I was living with a forrest next door - except we do not have mountains in our little country.

The artist behind the scenery is Laura Bach Skou - have not been able to trace other works by her, but hope this is the beginning for more winter displays in the winters to come.

'Tis the Season

Love the colors the sky brings at sunset in November - makes it a bit easier to cope with the fact that it is pitch dark outside when I leave the office after the workday.

Yesterday was exactly one month to Christmas - we celebrate on the 24th at night - and the first time this year, that I spotted Coca-Cola's yearly Santa labels on the bottles.... one of the signs that Christmas is coming.

Christmas tree is up at the office building

After work, a time for a little walk in the city, and the smal bright lights are in lots of shapes this time of year.

A Christmas tree like this makes it less boring waiting at the bus stop for the next bus to come.

Tourist

OK I assigned the label "me-time" - not the truth and yet.....

Went to the Viking Museum at Roskilde today as part of an event at work - was shooting some photos for work while visiting... and it gave me the possibility to take photos that I find interesting and not for work purposes. Realized how much I missed taking photos, blogging and visiting new places.

Well the museum is not new - I just had not been there before....

New York Smiles

Well it is about the city making me smile - first up is the elevator sign. First I dismissed it as silly, only later to realize that the hotel elevators were extremely busy at times.

Looking out of the hotel room window for the first time ... WHOA!!! They sure do have big reptiles in New York City.

Until you have the full picture: simply a wall decoration at the Iguana restaurant/bar - I like that "little" detail ;o)

Daily visits

Some people might daydream during the day - one day my colleagues thought I was day dreaming until the realized, that I was watching a small bird just outside the office window next to me.

The resolution of the photos are not great as captured with my mobile phone - did not want to scare off the daily friend with getting too close to the window. Its a vipstjært (wagtail) - and it comes by my window more than once daily to get small insects etc. I smile every time I see it - it may not notice me at all, but I am still glad that is is there.

Historic Car Park at Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix

Went to the Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix today - had heard about their historic Car Park so the camera was tossed in the bag before I left my apartment. Fell in love with several vintage cars and their details and was swept down memory lane when I saw cars that were IN in my childhood.

Watch the Birdie

I saw something similar a couple of years ago but never photographed them - but now the birdhouses have popped up at another street corner in the city. Nice to see something else than the election posters that were hanging everywhere 1½ month ago.

So colorful that they make you smile. A little sadness added as no birds will find there homes there as the holes are too small. But they do brighten up you day spotting them.

Scary Camera

OK.... a camera can not be scary, but the new functions in a smart phone can - makes me think of 1984 by Ray Bradbury ".....Big Brother is watching......." - what might had been science fiction when he wrote it...... well with all the electronic gadgets we are equipped with these days.

I was walking to a meeting the other day, where I just wanted to capture a few details on the way with my smartphone's camera:

It was when I browsed through the photos when I got home that I got really surprised.

The bridge is Marmorbroen (Marble Bridge) in Copenhagen and it crosses Frederiksholms Kanal.

I shot all 3 photos standing in the same spot and just slightly moving the camera - the caption on the two first photos says Marble Bridge on my smartphone, but when the camera was pointing a little bit more downwards but still the edges of Marble Bridge visible, the phone changed the caption of photo number 3 to Frederiksholms Kanal instead of Marble Bridge.

Really surprised about the accuracy of the captions to where I photo was taken, or what the motif is.

Sporvejen (the Tram)

How well do you know your own city? I mean really KNOW. I have been passing and spending time on a square in Copenhagen for the past 23 years, and yet there is a place, that I have never seen despite it has been in the same spot for more than 40 years. Sporvejen (the tram) - they have out doors serving in the summer period otherwise it is a small, nostalgic place in the wintertime.

The interior is the actual interior of a former Copenhagen tram (they were discontinued in 1972) and windows are replaced with nostalgic pictures of trams around in the city of Copenhagen) - the tables have 2-4 seats and the food served are burgers and omelettes. The atmosphere resembles an American Diner.

A friend introduced me to this place and it is not the last time, that I have eaten there. Their burgers are yummy, and a bit larger in size than the ones served at Shake Shack in the US but still a size you can actually finish and leaves you full in a good way. The waiters have a smile and pays good attention to their eating guests and you can sense that they like working there. Prices - eating out in Denmark is expensive, but it is very reasonable at Sporvejen.

The Passsage

I love this sight - you can't see it in the photo, but on the left side, you have a very busy street in Copenhagen, and yet you never seem to notice the noisy traffic when walking here.

Once in a while I go here when I have to go to meetings - there is a pedestrian sidewalk on the opposite side of the road, but it is just not the same. The walls are actually one side of Nationalmuseet (National Museum of Denmark) which might explain why we have a gem like this in the middle of our city.

Trainingship Denmark

Had the chance to go on board the beautiful Trainingship Denmark last Friday at Copenhagen Harbour, where a reception was held.

One can only begin to daydream and let the imagination work........ :o)
